Microchipping

Microchipping your pet is a safe, easy, effective way to permanently link your pet to you and provide you with peace of mind. At Cooper Veterinary Hospital, we recommend microchipping your pets even if they stay indoors.

Separation from your dog or cat can happen way too quickly and easily. Microchipping is the most reliable way to reunite pets with their owners because collars and tags can fall off and get lost, and tattoos will eventually fade or can be removed.

Microchips are electronic devices that are about the size of a grain of rice. They are not tracking devices, they do not have a battery, they do not need to be charged; microchips are designed to last the lifetime of your pet. They are injected under the skin over the back of the neck between the shoulder blades. At Cooper Veterinary Hospital, we can implant a microchip during any visit as the procedure is similar to a routine vaccination.

Each microchip has a unique identification number that is registered in a national directory and can be read by a portable scanner. Animal hospitals, pounds, shelters, and humane societies across the country are equipped with scanners that they can use to identify lost pets immediately. What happens is that these universally compatible scanners are used to read the identification code on the microchip. The microchip registry is called, and the registry company uses the ID number to retrieve the listed veterinary clinic or pet parent’s contact information from the pet recovery database, and then you are notified of your pet’s whereabouts.

We use the Home Again microchip for our patients and we will provide you with the registration form at the time the chip is implanted. All you have to do is to keep your contact information updated with the database should you have any changes.

What Our Clients Say

  • “The staff here are incredible. Everyone who works in the front are professional and so nice. Our German Shepherd gets really stressed, and the vet assistant was super patient and great with him. He got to see Dr. Halley, and she is really caring and explained everything thoroughly. I highly recommend this veterinary hospital."

  • “Cooper Veterinary Hospital is the only place in this area that handles international health certifications for pets, and they are excellent at it. They were incredibly responsive and proactive throughout the entire process. Special thanks to Dr. Halley and Madelyn, who went above and beyond to ensure my cat was cared for during our international travel. I cannot recommend them highly enough!!!”

  • “This was my first visit, and I really liked the vet. Dr. Bass is great, and so is Caleb, the vet tech. My dog has arthritis and can't be picked up. Dr. Bass and Caleb got on the floor with him! They are very kind and patient, and the costs are reasonable for a first visit.”

  • ”I came through their door on a Friday at closing time(yall know how ready you are to leave work at that time) with my beardie that was sick. I'd been in a panic because my local vet shrugged my baby off saying he was fine so I had to rush after work and drive an hour and a half to the closest exotic vet who denied seeing us(understandable as it was closing time) So I headed to Cooper praying that they would help. This office was kind and really took the time to listen to me and examine Pablo. I never felt rushed. They were very thorough with questions as well as explaining the medicines we were given and was sure to tell us not to hesitate to call them if I needed to. I'll forever make this drive from here out. Knowing that my baby really mattered to them makes it all worth it.”
